About Jeff Siegel

Jeff Siegel has been a mainstay on the Southern California racing scene in various capacities since first joining the Hollywood Park publicity staff in 1974.  A long-time leading handicapper for several Los Angeles-area newspapers, Jeff also has been a highly successful thoroughbred horse owner, co-founding (with Barry Irwin) Team Valor, the most successful thoroughbred partnership stable in North America.  An Eclipse Award winning on-air journalist, Jeff joined HRTV in 2003 and during his decade as a television analyst traveled to cover virtually every major thoroughbred event in North America, including the Triple Crown races and the Breeders’ Cup.  Jeff will be an integral member of the staff when the Stronach Group’s digital media company launches early in 2016.

Welcome to!


We’re hopeful that the information contained on these pages - written and composed entirely by long time Southern California-based handicapper Jeff Siegel – will be valuable to both the serious horse player and the casual fan alike. 


This website is an extension of Jeff’s popular blog ( and serves as a preview to the type of content that will be housed at, an exciting new development from Stronach Digital Media.  You’ll be hearing a lot about this new venture in coming weeks, with expected to launch early in 2016.   


In the meantime, if you’re playing the races at Santa Anita, Gulfstream Park, or other major tracks in North America, be sure to pay us a visit on a regular basis.  All of the information that appears on is absolutely FREE.  That’s right, no fees, no sign-up requirements, nothing!  Just bookmark this website and visit us as often as you like!


So what can you expect?


  • Jeff’s Day Makers.  On a regular basis you’ll have access to Jeff’s two best plays on a Wednesday through Sunday basis, with virtually every racetrack at his disposal.  These are truly the “cream of the crop.”

  • Analysis.  Every racing day Jeff will offer his full-card analysis and wagering strategies from Santa Anita.  The extensive commentary will appear in the early morning and will be updated to accommodate late changes and scratches. 

  • Triple Crown Tracker.  Jeff’s top 40 rankings of the Triple Crown class of 2016 will be updated regularly with news, commentary, and analysis. 

  • Santa Anita “Black Book” – Updated every Wednesday, this feature reviews key races and performances from the previous week.  It’s a real insiders’ take on which horses should be followed closely in their next start.

  • Gulfstream Park “Black Book” – Serious players who frequent the South Florida circuit will find the same type of insight and commentary invaluable.  Updated every Tuesday.

  • Live Blog – This is the page that you should keep open throughout the entire Santa Anita program.  Follow Jeff’s “live” commentary direct from trackside as he offers updates, opinions, reactions and commentary.
